It's either a flat panel (LCD or Plasma), or it's a projection DLP, LCOS, CRT, or SXRD. Since you say it has auto convergence, it must be a projection TV and it is not flat... it has a light source, a lens, a mirror, and a projection screen. The screen may be flat, but the TV is much deeper than a flat screen so it can accommodate all that stuff. Your CRT style projection TV has a classic convergence amp failure.
