AV, I liked your answer but I would like to correct you. Up to two days ago I always thought that plasmas started at 42 inches as well but I am currently working on a 32 inch Sony plasma model KZ32TS1E. This is the first plasma I've seen under 42 inches and has a fantastic looking picture. The set originally cost the customer 6000 dollars in 2004

Well it will be an LCD since Plasmas start at a minimum of 42"

For best results, I recommend looking at the TV before you buy it. There is considerable variation from model to model and brand to brand.

You are spot-on in your price range for the size you want.

When looking at TVs check the inputs on the side (or back) you should have at LEAST 2 HDMI and at least 2 componant video (red green blue). You should have a standard SD-video (Yellow) and it's a good idea to have 1 s-video.

I also recommend you get a TV with a VGA - computer monitor connector. It may sound silly at first, but any TV with decent resolution can also be used as a computer monitor.

I nice thing to have would be a DVI connector, but it's unlikely to have both DVI and HDMI in the same set and if you had to choose, go for HDMI.

You should be able to find up to a 32" screen at 1080 lines for your price range.

You may find a 37" with 780 lines in your price range also, but it will have to down-convert higher quality signals to your screen, so for better picture quality you may have to stay at 32" or less.

I went out and bought a 37" Vizio and am happy with it, even a little impressed. it was at the top of your price range, it also only had 780 lines.

Don't forget to look at Wal*Mart... Even if you don't/won't buy from them, it's a great place to get a feel for the market and the prices you can get - After all you wouldn't want to pay 800 for a tv you could for 500.
